Here at Huel, excellent nutrition and health is the foundation that we work upon. So we have listed some of the information that confirms this commitment to health and safety throughout all aspects of Huel.
The building in which Huel is produced is an ISO 9001 certified facility. From the ISO website:
"The ISO 9000 family addresses various aspects of quality management and contains some of ISO’s best known standards. The standards provide guidance and tools for companies and organizations who want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet customer’s requirements, and that quality is consistently improved."
An ISO certification is an extra guarantee that the facility in question is a consistent producer of quality products, maintains high safety standards and continually continues to improve, going further than just the UK and EU regulations.
The Huel facility also meets Safe and Local Supplier Approval (SALSA) standards. From the SALSA website:
"SALSA is a non-profit making joint venture between the four main trade associations representing the UK Food Chain featured on the right. The Institute of Food Science and Technology operate the scheme throughout the UK. All of these bodies make up the independently chaired Governance Committee which oversee the SALSA scheme.
The purpose of SALSA is to provide food safety assurance certification and support for small and micro businesses in the United Kingdom."
Huel's facility also successfully complies with Regulation 852/2004, in accordance with The Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations and HACCP Traceability.
Whilst there have been some correct criticisms of the use of certain pesticides in the past, we here at Huel agree with their use, as long as it is responsibly done. Some users ask that we go organic to avoid using pesticides. However, just because an ingredient is organic, this doesn't mean it is pesticide free. The legal definition of organic food is not that it is pesticide free, but rather that all ingredients (including pesticides) come from natural sources. Many organic farmers use organic pesticides to grow their crops because of this.
Therefore we closely monitor the pesticides used on Huel ingredients, and how they're used, to ensure they do not affect Huel negatively at all. The reports for each of the ingredients are below. Note to mobile users: to ensure the documents are readable, the below links are PDFs so are quite large, each being at least 2MB.
We also monitor heavy metal levels in the soil that our ingredients are grown in, and then with the final product, to ensure these are always at a safe level. You can view two reports on the level of heavy metals in Huel here:
Melamine is not present in Huel. Some Chinese products have been accused of increasing the amount of 'protein' detected in their product with the use of Melamine. However, Huel does not contain Melamine. Below are two independent tests done on Huel's behalf to detect the amount of Melamine in Huel. Whilst the links below say there is <0.5mg/kg of Melamine, this is just the lowest possible detection level, and is not saying there is actually 0.5mg/kg of Melaine in Huel's protein.
